TGRF boss predicts Jade Goody fiasco in August 06
TGRF boss Ray Fensome writes a regular column for Lightload Lifestyle magazine and in the August 2006 issue warned of the danger of making stars of un-educated, un-talented people like Jade Goody. Ray wrote at the time "The girl has been made a celebrity and I'm not blaming her for taking advantage of the situation, but to put somebody who in essence is famous for being illiterate in all our magazines and newspapers is outrageous. This is sending out all the wrong messages to our children" He then goes on to say "It is up to magazine editors and TV producers etc. to stop using these people and focus on talented and intelligent kids" If only they had listened!!!. In his latest article for this months issue written before the headline grabbing argument with Shilpa he wrote "...I then turn over to watch Celebrity Big Brother where I find that Jade Goody and her family are now celebrities. Now don’t get me started on Jade Goody!! Jade announces that she has been voted the 25th most influential (she actually said influlential!!) girl in the world, and by the look of my stepson’s girlfriend (who’s other idol is Chantelle!!!) and her mates, who burst out laughing at every stupid, ignorant comment that comes out of Jades mouth, this is obviously true. This girl is believe it or not, a very dangerous girl and is doing real damage to our nation’s children. She is our modern day pop star that girls want to be. Every girl in the land is now thinking they don’t need to study at school, just follow Jades example and end up rich and famous. It is time TV companies, journalists, and anyone else responsible for putting this girl in the public eye took a responsible attitude and stopped putting her and her like on TV and in magazines. She is certainly not the role-model I want for my daughter! What is it with the British public that loves the underdog, while the talented and intelligent fall by the wayside? When I was a teenager, stars were people we could only dream of meeting, god-like creatures placed firmly on a pedestal. Maybe I have to accept that reality TV has killed stardom as we knew it, changing the public’s perception of fame for good. Stardom is now achieved all too easily. Jade’s mum Jackiey is today being hailed as a star on all the morning TV shows, instead of being sent to prison, for bringing up an un-educated child. It is the responsibility of all parents to bring up a child with a basic education." Looks like a bright future in journalism could be waiting for Ray!! www.lightloadlifestyle.com
